A CALL FOR PUBLIC MEETING: For Democracy and Human Rights in Ethiopia
A CALL FOR PUBLIC MEETING
For Democracy and Human Rights in Ethiopia
26th November 2006, Mechanics' Institute, 103 Princess St. Manchester M1 6DD
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The aspiration and dream of the Ethiopian people for true democracy expressed by the May 2005 general election has been snatched by the current TPLF dictatorial regime. The regime that rigged the election to remain in power has continued with its criminal actions of murdering, imprisoning and torturing of our people. It has massacred more than 200 peacefully protesting citizens. Tens of thousands were herded into prisons where they are held under subhuman conditions. Moreover, the government has charged with genocide and treason 111 senior leaders of the popular opposition party CUDP, human rights activists, trade unionists, teachers, and journalists. These individuals that are falsely accused of genocide and treason are facing death penalty!
Concerned by such developments, Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia in the Diaspora are getting organized to support the Ethiopian people in their fight against the dictatorial government of Meles Zenawi. As such, we Ethiopians in the Greater Manchester, Greater Merseyside (Liverpool) and surrounding areas need to do our share!
Therefore, concerned Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia residing in the Greater Manchester, Greater Merseyside (Liverpool) and surrounding areas have organized a public meeting to be held on 26 th November 2006 to discuss the current political crisis and grotesque human rights violations in Ethiopia. We call upon all concerned Ethiopians as well as friends of Ethiopians and Human Right activists, to attend this important public meeting!
